About Save the Mothers
Save the Mothers East Africa (STM) is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes by fostering innovative leadership, strengthening health systems, advancing research, and community engagement.
Founded in 2005, STM works with governments, health facilities, academic institutions, communities, Civil Society Organisations, Community Based Organisations, Faith Based Organisations, cultural institutions, private sector and development partners to strengthen health systems and equip multidisciplinary leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in East Africa and beyond.
For more than 20 years, Save the Mothers East Africa (STM EA) has been advancing maternal and newborn health through leadership development, health systems strengthening, research, and community engagement.

What We Do
Master of Public Health Leadership (MPHL)
A unique multidisciplinary graduate program delivered in partnership with Uganda Christian University that equips professionals with the leadership skills, knowledge, and practical tools needed to drive change in maternal and newborn health within their sectors and communities.
Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI)
A health systems strengthening initiative that supports health facilities to provide safe, respectful, and high-quality maternity and newborn care through training, mentorship, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
Creating Impact Where It Matters Most
STM’s work is helping strengthen health facilities, improve quality of care, develop leaders, and empower communities to contribute to safer motherhood and newborn survival.
From expanding maternity and neonatal care services in hospitals to supporting community-led initiatives and mentoring future leaders, our programs are improving outcomes for mothers, newborns, and families across Uganda and beyond.
